Prepare for IELTS & Crack in 1st attempt
Do you think it is tough to crack the IELTS?
IELTS test assesses your general awareness, logical thinking, attitude, presentation of thoughts, and language ability to move abroad.
If you want to prepare for the IELTS exam at home during a specific period, you must know where you should start focusing. In lesser time, you have to cover most of the IELTS syllabus. With more practice, more time in learning, and the highest focus on that module of IELTS, you feel lesser confident.
How to prepare for IELTS
When you aim to crack the IELTS exam, your first step towards preparation should be to identify which section of the syllabus you need to focus on first.
Understand the IELTS test format
It is the most basic yet crucial point of starting the preparation for any exam. Find out the syllabus and the IELTS format and get an idea about exam duration and required practice.
Take practice test
Take a practice test at the beginning of your preparation. It will help you identify your weak points in language and what training is required. Also, it will help you calculate your speed, time spent overall & what section took the most time, and in which module you are facing the most difficulty.
Create a study plan
If your goal is to gain the highest IELTS band in less time, then having a strict practice schedule is necessary. It should not be taken as an activity on a random day or when you feel like practising. Create a proper study schedule and divide the English learning & practice time for every section.
Improve IELTS Vocabulary
Vocabulary is one of the essential preparation in IELTS that will help you answer many questions in less time.
Reading English newspapers or magazines daily can help you build a strong vocabulary. Practice using the new words in your daily conversations or write different sentences with them.
IELTS Speaking
Start with examining yourself. Where you feel stuck mostly, to begin a topic, adding ideas, presenting thoughts in a structured way, or anything you think pulls you back.
Pick a topic and start practising in front of the mirror. Try to speak words clearly, and practice all day & every day. It is best to practice with someone who can help you improve.
For speaking, you can focus on these topics more like education, arts, family, technology, etc.
Practice Writing
Writing tests can be challenging for those who use voice search to perform even small searches of day-to-day life.
Having zero to no writing habits becomes a problem when we would have to sit for a written exam like IELTS. We hope you are not someone who considers texting and messaging as writing practice.
IELTS requires complete and precise words & sentences in a well-structured form.
Pick a topic from your reading or listening topics and write about it. It will strengthen your listening and writing also. You can pick more topics from books you read, social media, day-to-day discussions, recent updates, etc.
Practice Reading
The reading section gives you 60 minutes to answer 40 questions. The reading module aims to test your logical thinking, ideas, understanding, opinions, and perspectives.
You may not get time to read a text twice, or otherwise you will have to leave some questions.
Therefore, practising reading various types of text like short, long stories, advertisements, etc. will help you answer questions in less time.
IELTS Time Management
There are four sections in IELTS-
1. Reading: 60 minutes
2. Writing: 60 minutes
3. Speaking: 14 minutes
4. Listening: 30 minutes
There is a different time frame for each section, which means that each section will require less or more understanding and questions.
For example, the Listening test will have four recordings (which will only be played once) and forty questions. The recordings will be in various accents like Canadian, American, New Zealand, British, and Australian.
As you will get only 30 minutes with one chance to listen, you will have to listen to each recording very carefully.
So, to get better at listening, pick a variety of styles and different accents. Having good listening practice with unique accents will help you catch the sentences and words faster.
Never let your focus go outside the page you are reading, the audio you are listening to, and the topic you are writing on. IELTS practice can take a few weeks to months, depending on your level of English proficiency. The lower the proficiency level, the higher the hard work is required.
